Have you ever been to the Muskoka region? If you haven’t, you should. It’s beautiful. The Muskoka region covers 3 towns: Bracebridge, Gravenhurst and Huntsville. It also covers 3 townships: Lake of Bays, Muskoka Lake and Georgian Bay. This region is only a 2 hour drive North of Toronto and is a popular vacation destination especially during the summer. It is the natural beauty, numerous lakes, rocky shores and large forested areas that make Muskoka such a beautiful setting.
In the Township of Muskoka, this 782 square kilometers area lays 80 lakes including the three large lakes: Muskoka, Rosseau and Joseph. Situated along these lakes are resorts that gear toward rejuvenating the mind, body and spirit. In addition to the resorts several permanent and seasonal homes occupy the land mass; however, over 80 percent still remains untouched. Most of these homes are situated along the shoreline or built high among the cliffs overlooking the water.
If you have a boat there are public boat launches allowing entry into the lakes. Trolling along, looking at the wonderful scenery and huge cottages is a peaceful way to enjoy the day. If you don’t own a boat, don’t worry you can hop on the Muskoka steamboat!
If you enjoy the outdoors why not bring your camping gear and stay at any one of the several campgrounds around the area. Muskoka boasts for some of the most sought after camping in Ontario. Both Provincial and National park campsites book up quickly therefore if you are thinking about taking a vacation in the summer, you may want to book long in advance. Algonquin Park offers campsites totally secluded and off the beaten path. Family campgrounds offer full serviced sites for those that want comfort.
If you don’t own a tent or trailer, why not rent a cottage? But again, these fill up quickly so make sure you book early. Whether boating, camping or just relaxing Muskoka offers it all, so why not put this adventure on agenda!!
