The weather is a sort of everyday kind of thing that nobody pays too much attention to. I mean, sure, we use it so we know what to wear, or if we need a jacket. And, of course, sometimes we make plans around it, if our plans might be weather-dependent. But we never pay attention to what the weather actually does to us.
My favourite season of the year is spring. I am always so happy and positive during the spring. Yet, this year, up until this past week or so, I’ve been kind of crabby and not as happy as my usual spring self. Once the weather cheered up, I realized that I cheered up as well. So I came to the conclusion that the weather has an effect on my mood!
I started thinking about what I’m like at different points in the year. I hate fall-type weather, because I hate the transition from hot to cold, and I despise the rain. And I realized that I’m never in the best mood in the fall! I’m less positive and optimistic! I LOVE snow, and love when the snow falls especially around Christmas time, and even though I’m cheerful around Christmas anyways, I noticed that I am especially happy when it’s a white Christmas season.
I also notice that during the spring and summer months everyone happens to be happier and more cheerful than usual, as long as the weather is sunny and hot! People are more peppy, have more energy and are more outgoing! And, when the weather is great around Christmas, there’s a more cheerful and festive atmosphere! It’s nice seeing people out and about, bustling around shops getting ready for Christmas. And the same goes in the summer—it’s great being out on a weekend and seeing people out for walks with their dogs, going on jogs, or out for brunch on the patio!
