I just love Valentine’s Day. I know what you all are thinking—this is, like, the cheesiest holiday of the year. But, to be completely honest with you, I don’t care! I am a total hopeless romantic, and I personally think it’s a great way to make time for your relationship. And that way, it doesn’t have to be so cheesy.
Just like with holidays like Christmas or Halloween, Valentine’s Day has a certain atmosphere surrounding it. I love how the excitement builds up to it… it’s far enough after New Years that it’s not so crazy-busy. And, not to mention, it’s far past Christmas—meaning I can look forward to a nice gift from my husband! I love the feeling of it being so cold outside while enjoying such a warm holiday. It’s fun!
Every year, my husband makes sure to buy me a nice special gift. It’s not always expensive (nor does it have to be), but it’s always something meaningful, and something that is not just your day-to-day item. For example, one year he bought me a purse organizer! I thought it was so thoughtful, because he always knows that I’m either rummaging around for my keys, my lipstick, my phone, etc. It was simple and inexpensive, but I thought it was priceless. Another time he got me a giant gift basket full of amazing chocolates and wine. Something like that was special to me as well, because it’s not every day you get to be spoiled and pampered with luxurious chocolates and wine! Did I need it? No way! It’s just nice to get things that are special and different then the usual stuff!
Aside from the gifts, what I really love most about Valentine’s Day is the opportunity to make time just to spend with my husband, and that’s it. Sometimes Valentine’s Day falls on a day that’s inconvenient, or where we already have something else planned. So, instead, we do dinner another night—which I LOVE! The point isn’t that we have to get together on the actual day of Valentine’s Day, it’s that the day forces us to make some time for each other during that time period! And every year we do it, without fail!
